Trade label printer Baker Labels has made a series of new kit purchases at Labelexpo as it looks to invest in its future.
The Brentwood, Essex-based printer has boosted its pouch production with the addition of a sixth Galaxy Packtech pouchmaker for its BakPac division which specialises in flexible packaging. The latest addition is a model GS 24 Plus 200 SBS.
It follows the installation of two new Galaxy Packtech machines in May this year.
Also purchased at Labelexpo were two HP Indigo 6k+ label presses, which will make up the company's 12th and 13th since buying its first HP press in 2006.
These two machines will provide an upgrade on its current presses, while also supporting customer demand and keeping the company “at the cutting edge of label print”, said Steve Baker, Baker Labels managing director.
In total the business spent over £1m on the investments during Labelexpo, which took place in Barcelona from 16-19 September.
The HP Indigos are set for installation in October while the pouchmaker install date is yet to be confirmed, but most likely early 2026, the printer told Printweek.
Both suppliers have a long-standing relationship with Baker Labels.
Steve Baker said that at Baker Labels, “we’ve never been shy about investing in the future”.
“We’ve always made it a priority to stay at the very forefront of label and packaging technology,” said Baker.
“Our long-standing partnership with HP has been central to that journey, and the introduction of the two new Indigo 6K+ presses strengthens our ability to deliver both speed and quality to our label customers.
“On the flexible packaging side, Galaxy Packtech has been a fantastic partner in the growth of BakPac. Their pouchmaking systems give us the reliability and scale we need to keep up with customer demand.”
He added: “These investments reflect our confidence in the future and our commitment to giving brands and trade partners the innovation, service, and agility they expect from Bakers.”
The company’s Brentwood facility, which it moved to in 2011, underwent a major extension in early 2024 as part of the firm's ongoing £5m, two-year investment strategy.
Founded in 1970, Baker Labels currently has 124 staff at its Brentwood facility which is made up of four industrial units measuring in total approximately 4,645sqm.
The company set up a charitable foundation in 2023 to add more structure and commitment to its regular charity contributions.
This year so far, the Bakers Foundation has donated more than £175,000 across 40 charities, which include a mix of long-term partnerships and new causes. This brings its total donations to almost £700,000.
