Northend: full service offering

Northend has become a Carbon Balanced Printer through CarbonCo.

The historic Sheffield-based firm is now in its 136th year of being in business, after celebrating 135 years of trading last year.

Sales director Ian McCloskey explained the firm's journey to being Carbon Balanced, and said: "For some time now, Northend has been able to provide customers with carbon footprint figures for individual jobs through CarbonQuota and PrintIQ. We're pleased to say we've now taken the next step and committed to offsetting our current unavoidable carbon emissions by supporting the World Land Trust."

He said the firm had worked with partnership director Paul Opie and the team at CarbonCo on the accreditation.

"I've spoken with Paul at various industry events, including the BPIF Book Awards and the Printweek Awards, and we officially signed up in mid-July."

Northend is Printweek's reigning Bespoke Publications Printer of the Year.

The firm also works with its main paper supplier, Antalis and EBB, such that all coated and uncoated materials are now carbon balanced as standard.

"The deciding factor was that it's just the right thing to do, but it's also a great sales tool and something to talk about," McCloskey added.

He said the business was trading slightly above budget so far this year, with the 45-staff firm expecting to post sales of more than £4.5m for the full year.

Its full service offering spans an array of commercial and creative print services including litho, digital and large-format, along with mailing, project management, and pick, pack and deliver.

Northend expanded with an additional unit for pick and pack services at the beginning of this year, which McCloskey said was "going really well".
