The Valezus T2200 can print up to 330ppm in full colour

Bristol-based company MPS has invested in Riso's Valezus T2200 production printer, to expand into the inkjet market.

The inkjet printer was installed at the end of June and forms part of the company’s long-term growth strategy, MPS managing director, Chris Walton, told Printweek.

"To support growth and to be competitive in this marketplace you need a range of tools, and inkjet is definitely one of them," Walton said.

Having joined MPS five months ago, Walton said the six-figure investment was part of his plan to double the company's size over the next four to five years. Going forward, Walton said the new T2200 will help open doors.

It marks the first time MPS has purchased from Riso, however Walton had worked with the supplier in previous roles. He said he knew the company and the model and it was chosen as, "it's a very good machine for stepping into inkjet".

He added: "At this point of growth for the business, this one ticked all the boxes."

The machine is a high-speed, full-colour, cutsheet inkjet device, with the ability to print up to 330ppm in full colour.

Key benefits include its speed, allowing the business to complete its desired capacity increase, and offer shorter run and quick turnaround products to customers for print and mail jobs.

One of the best aspects of the machine, reflected Walton, was the speed of its installation.

"I've installed around 100 machines in the time I've been in the game, and this will definitely go down as one of the smoothest installs I've ever been involved with," he said. "I expected it to be straightforward, but it was better than my expectations."

He explained: "It was delivered on a Monday morning, with the Riso engineers waiting when it arrived. It was put together by the end of day one, training started on Tuesday and was completed by Thursday. Then we were into live production by the end of the week."

Based in Winford, Bristol with a team of 20, MPS's equipment also includes three Canon toner engines and enclosing machinery to do its mailing service - an area the company is looking to expand next.

Walton noted, "I've increased our print capacity but now we have a bottleneck in our mailing."

So, he is looking to secure another enclosing machine by the end of the year, and then another in 2026. He is looking to get a Bowe Fusion machine next year due to its mailing speed.

He added: "The next stage is to keep adding layers and address sales demand."

Customers include the council and government, along with universities, banks and finance firms, with services in direct and transactional mailing, personalised print and postage.
