Digital flexible packaging company ePac has installed its first HP Indigo 200K digital press in Europe at its new Sheffield site.  The investment marks the latest phase in its ongoing collaboration with HP and the continued rollout of its European expansion strategy.

The installation, first announced at drupa 2024, is part of a multiyear agreement between ePac and HP to standardise the company's fleet of digital presses with HP Indigo 200K models. This is the first deployment of the 200K press in ePac's EMEA operations, joining six existing machines already in use across ePac's US network.

Founded in the US in 2016, ePac has grown from a single-site operation to a global business producing over one million flexible packaging pouches per month. Since opening its first UK site in Silverstone in 2019, ePac has expanded to five locations across Europe, including facilities in France, Poland, Austria, and two additional sites in the UK, with Sheffield representing its latest addition.

The HP Indigo 200K digital press offers increased speed and productivity compared to its predecessor, with up to 30% faster printing and 45% higher efficiency. The press supports a range of applications, including surface and reverse printing, and features enhanced colour management for consistent print quality across multiple locations.

According to ePac, the added capacity from the Sheffield installation will support growing demand for short-run, quick-turnaround packaging solutions tailored to local markets across Europe. The press also helps support sustainability goals, aligning with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

One of the first companies to benefit from the new installation is Westlab, a UK-based wellness brand. Westlab has used ePac's European network to streamline packaging production while maintaining brand consistency. CEO of Westlab Sean Daly said the flexibility and fast lead times provided by ePac have helped the company respond quickly to market demands and manage stock more efficiently.

Noam Zilbershtain, vice president and general manager of HP Indigo, noted that the deployment in Sheffield demonstrates the shared goal of modernising flexible packaging production in Europe. "This milestone is another step in delivering agile, efficient solutions to brands of all sizes," he said.
