Coveris, a sustainable paper and plastic packaging solutions provider, has invested an additional £1m ($1.34m) in its Linerless Labelling Centre of Excellence located in Spalding, England, to meet rising demand.
This move is part of an ongoing investment programme aimed at advancing the company's linerless capabilities, which commenced in late 2022.
The latest investment brings the total spend at the company's Spalding site, said to be the UK's only dedicated linerless label manufacturing facility, to £2.5m.
The Coveris Spalding site produces over one billion labels each year for the UK and European fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors.
The new ten-colour MPS flexographic press, which became operational last month, supports strategic growth into new wide-web markets.
The advanced MPS technology of the new press, designed to print on both paper and filmic substrates, aligns with Coveris' No Waste vision by offering sustainable labelling solutions.
The machine features E-Sleeve print capabilities for enhanced accuracy, reduced waste, and faster set-up times.
The press also incorporates 100% web inspection for improved quality and consistency and offers cold foil embellishment for decorative, high-impact finishes across Coveris’ full range of linerless formats.
Coveris BU Paper Sales director Nigel Hewitt said: "This latest investment represents another key milestone in our journey to deliver world-class linerless solutions from our Linerless Centre of Excellence.
"As demand continues to grow across traditional applications and newer categories like ready meals, our expanded capacity and technical capability ensure we remain the partner of choice for sustainable labelling innovation."
