Klockner Pentaplast Wins Prestigious German Packaging Award for kp 100% Tray2Tray Innovation
Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), a global leader in rigid and flexible packaging and speciality film solutions, has been awarded a German Packaging Award in the New Material category for kp 100% Tray2Tray®. The award recognises kp's leadership in material innovation and its commitment to true circularity in food packaging.
kp 100% Tray2Tray® is the first packaging tray on the market made entirely from recycled PET sourced exclusively from other food packaging trays. This technical breakthrough enables a new level of circularity.
To achieve this, kp worked with the supply chain to develop a dedicated recycling stream, including novel delamination, sorting and extrusion processes to ensure food-grade quality, performance and traceability. Fully certified under RecyClass's closed-loop module and by RETRAY, the solution eliminates virgin plastic, avoids downcycling and supports compliance with evolving EU packaging regulations and plastic tax frameworks.
Already piloted with Tesco and Hilton Foods in the UK and launched commercially with leading Italian brand Amadori, kp 100% Tray2Tray® delivers operational ease and circularity, without compromise.
