UR-SA to Build USD20m Packaging Facility in Egypt's SCZone
Turkey-based industrial packaging producer UR-SA has signed an agreement with Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) to develop a $20 million packaging plant in the Qantara West Industrial Zone. The facility, spanning 35,000 square metres, will manufacture industrial and agricultural packaging materials, including flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs), with 80% of production intended for export markets.
The investment, equivalent to approximately EGP 1 billion, is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs, according to a statement released by the SCZone.
"This project marks the 23rd to be launched in Qantara West, bringing total investments in the zone to $643.5 million and the number of direct job opportunities to more than 33,600," said Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZone.
He added that the development is in line with the SCZone"s strategy to attract investment in targeted industries, promote local manufacturing, increase export volumes, and enhance supply chain resilience within the region.
The new plant underscores UR-SA's ambitions to expand its footprint in North Africa, leveraging Egypt's strategic location and favourable trade access to regional and global markets.
