UFlex Debuts FSSAI-Compliant Single-Pellet rPET Solution
India's top flexible packaging firm aligns with EPR mandate, scaling up recycling capacity and global approvals.
UFlex Limited, India's largest multinational in flexible packaging, has introduced a groundbreaking single‑pellet solution that blends recycled PET (rPET) with virgin PET, fully compliant with FSSAI food‑contact regulations. The resin delivers high clarity, thermal and mechanical stability, reduced acetaldehyde, and integrates seamlessly with existing PET manufacturing lines—requiring no capital investment by users.
This launch coincides with India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, which mandates that from 1 April 2025 brands using Category‑1 rigid plastic (e.g., PET bottles) achieve at least 30% recycled content by FY 2026.
The single‑pellet solution meets FSSAI's criteria for rPET food‑contact material and satisfies international standards, including US FDA approval for recycled polyethylene (rPE)—making UFlex the first Indian company with USFDA consent to recycle rPET, rPE, and rPP for food packaging. The process achieves over 95% de‑inking of PCR materials ("super‑clean recycling").
To support this innovation, UFlex has committed ₹317 crore (~$38 million) toward two new recycling plants in Noida, combined capacity 39,600 MTPA.
Ashish Saxena, Joint President, Packaging Films Business, said:
"The single‑pellet solution will be a game‑changer for food and beverage brands striving to meet EPR compliance … As regulations become more robust, we aim to set the benchmark for responsible production and scalable, sustainable packaging solutions in India and beyond".
UFlex's current global recycling capacity is 72,300 MTPA, with an additional 39,600 MTPA scheduled by FY 2026. The company has recycled over five billion post‑consumer PET bottles to date, and processed 8,200 MTPA of mixed flexible waste in FY 2025.
Operating in India, Egypt, Poland, and Mexico, UFlex is building one of the most comprehensive recycling ecosystems, tackling PET, mixed flexible, and aseptic multi‑layer plastic waste.
Founded in 1985 and employing over 12,000 people, UFlex is active throughout the packaging value chain—films, flexible & aseptic packaging, holography, engineering, printing cylinders, chemicals—serving FMCG, pharma, consumer goods, and automotive sectors globally.
